Photographing Knabstrupper Stallion Pax Asgard af Pegasus at Big Vine Ranch
I recently had the honor of photographing a truly exceptional stallion named Pax Asgard af Pegasus at Big Vine Ranch in Patterson, Georgia. Pax is a 2016 Homozygous Fewspot Knabstrupper stallion, standing at 16.3 hands, and to put it simply… he’s a really cool guy.
While Pax may be mostly white with just a few subtle spots, he is a 100% leopard color producer, and his offspring are absolutely stunning. He’s by Pegasus Vom Niehaus-Hof (Pergamon aus der Schuetze x Apollon) and out of Firefly de Bec (Ambrosius af Asgard x Java Gold). The Knabstrupper, a Danish warmblood breed known for its unique spotted coat and versatility, is still fairly rare in the U.S., and Pax is a standout representative of the breed.
Photographing stallions often comes with a set of challenges, but Pax broke every stereotype. He was hands down the easiest stallion I’ve ever photographed. His personality is curious, calm, and incredibly willing. Whether we were taking traditional conformation shots, shooting holiday-themed portraits with hearts for Valentine's Day, or having him wear the American flag for a patriotic feature, he handled it all with patience and ease.
We also captured movement video and liberty photos, and Pax turned it on like a pro. His trot is floaty and expressive, showing off the athleticism and grace this breed is known for. He was also friendly with everyone he met, including children, barn dogs, and even the barn cat roaming the property.
This session was part of a branding package created to support his stallion promotion efforts, including website photos, social media content, and future stallion advertisements. I’ll be sharing another blog post soon featuring some of his striking offspring I’ve photographed over the past year. Each one carries his presence and beauty in their own unique way.
