Ari and Flicka/ Senior Portraits with Horses/ Palm Coast, Florida

Sometimes, in the course of my journey as an equine photographer, I get the opportunity to photograph a horse that I have photographed before with a previous owner. It was very exciting to meet Ari and learn that her beloved and GORGEOUS horse, Flicka, had been in front of my camera many years before. Ari and Flicka have a lovely bond that was a joy to capture as part of Ari’s equestrian senior portraits. Her session was held at The Florida Agricultural Museum on one of the very last days of Spring wildflowers before they burned away in the Florida heat.

Claire and Snoopy/ Equestrian Senior Portraits/ M & M Training/ St. Augustine, Florida

I love getting to photograph equestrian seniors before they head off to college! Hearing all about their plans, their excitement at the unknown, and knowing that the entire world is opening up to them for the first time. Maybe it’s because it takes me back to when the world was fresh and new and opportunities were endless. What a special time to capture. Claire and Snoopy won’t always be together, but when Claire looks back at these pictures we created together, I hope she is still full of the adventure, hope and excitement that she was at this time in her life.

Ashleigh and Flicka/ Remember Me Session/ Jacksonville, Florida

Having to say goodbye to a beloved horse is one of the hardest parts of horse ownership. It is never easy. Sometimes when a horse has lived a good long life, saying goodbye, becomes a process of a lot of little things. Extra treats each morning that you are greeted with his nicker. Scratches in all his favorite spots. Watching daily for a sign that he is ready to go. Agonizing over making the call at the right time.

Tina and Skip/ Photographing The Heart Horse/ St. Augustine, Florida

Several years ago I had the opportunity to create equine and equestrian art with Tina and her horses and pups in St. Augustine, Florida. We created a specific piece that was printed on a vivid metal surface and hung in her home. When her heart horse, Skip a gorgeous buckskin, came into her life she just knew she needed a companion piece to the one we created in the past. I was excited to work with Tina again and couldn’t wait to spend a little time in her positive energy and in the path of her big smile! Not to mention… Skip is such a gorgeous boy!

Kenzie and Nemo/ High School Senior Portraits With Horses/ St. Augustine, Florida

Once a horse girl, always a horse girl. That’s how I felt when watching the connection between Kenzie and her pony Nemo as they interacted in front of my lens. We knew from the initial planning of their session that the focus would be on highlighting their relationship and celebrating how far Kenzie has come in the early days of her hopeful equestrian career. She was excited to be finished with her high school curriculum and ready to be headed on to the next stage of her adult life.

Amber and Her Horses/ Equestrian Senior Portraits/ St. Augustine, Florida

I’ve had the pleasure of photographing Amber and several of her horses over the years. I think the first time I had her in front of my lens was at a small local horse show. I later photographed her at a barn she was taking riding lessons at as part of a local 4-H team and of course we naturally progressed to holiday horse portraits. So it only felt right that I would work with Amber to create her dream shoot for her equestrian senior portraits located at her home in St. Augustine, FL!

Experience An Authentic Working Cattle and Horse Ranch Through the Photos of Dryhead Ranch by Fast Horse Photography

What makes you a badass cowgirl?

Is it the length of time you’ve known how to ride a horse? Or, how you saddle up and maneuver your trusty steed.

Do you need to know how to stay on a bronc or wrangle a calf at a rodeo for folks to call you a cowgirl?

Is sitting in the saddle three days in a row in inclement weather as you drive the herd home a rule?

How do you learn to be a cowgirl? Is it passed down through generations of working the land… the cattle… and the ranch?

Is being a cowgirl something you do, or is it who you are? Because it can’t just be about riding.

Maybe it is a little of both?

Be Inspired — Powderhorn Ranch Women’s Retreat with Equine Photographers Network

Have you ever traveled to the open spaces of Wyoming? Where the landscape is so vast, your brain can’t seem to soak it all in?

Taunting your cowgirl spirit.

A place that schools city folk on embracing their surroundings.

Where bluebird days are pretty much a guarantee. And the plains sit still offering peace and tranquility.

The land gives you the chance to enjoy the silence. Just listening to the wind. With the sun kissing your face. Making you envious of the western lifestyle. Where boots and chaps are a way of life.

A dusty face and windswept hair are a welcome sight. Well-worn gloves, a hat, and a broad smile reflect western culture and history.

The life of a cowgirl, handed down by the legendary pioneer women. Kept alive through generations of family, working homesteads like Powderhorn Ranch, 25 miles south of Douglas, Wyoming.

A life that isn’t for everybody. Only for the strong at heart, mind, and spirit.

Art Of The Cowgirl - An Epic Event Showcasing Master Artisans and Horsewomen of the West

You guys… I want to share with you about a trip I took in June. I had the most amazing experience attending Art of the Cowgirl in Bozeman, Montana. A five-day event situated in pristine horse country.

A gathering to celebrate cowgirls and the impact they make on western lifestyle and culture.

Honoring who they are. Their history. And the generations who led them on their artistic path.

It was truly insane to see so many talented and gifted women in one place.

We’re talking about world-class champion horsewomen. Custom boot, saddle, and hat makers. Professional photographers, silversmiths, rawhide braiders, colt starters, sculptors, and more.
